Aqua-Dry no longer operates its rug cleaning centre or takes rugs away for cleaning. Some rugs can still be cleaned in your home, depending on their material, construction and condition.
This article previously explained our former facility-based service. The information below reflects the rug cleaning options currently available.
Not every rug is suitable for on-site cleaning. Before arranging an appointment, we need to consider its fibre composition, dyes, backing, condition and care instructions.
Aqua-Dry uses hot water extraction for suitable materials. If a rug is unsuitable for this process, we explain this before proceeding. We do not offer alternative dry-solvent or foam cleaning methods.
Delicate, antique or colour-sensitive rugs may require a specialist service that Aqua-Dry does not currently provide.
We do not clean rugs made from:
These materials can be particularly sensitive to moisture. Check the manufacturer's label before enquiring and follow its care instructions.
If the composition is unclear, photographs of the label, pile and reverse may help with an initial assessment. However, we cannot reliably identify every material from photographs alone, and further inspection may be necessary.
Some rugs contain dyes that may bleed or transfer during cleaning. Their backing, foundation and fringes can also respond differently to moisture.
Assessment and appropriate testing help identify potential problems, but they do not guarantee that every rug can be safely wet cleaned. Where there is a significant risk of colour bleeding, shrinkage or damage, cleaning may not be appropriate.
We no longer offer the controlled drying facilities described in the previous version of this article.
Cleaning may remove accumulated dirt and improve the appearance of suitable rugs. The results depend on the material, condition and type of soiling.
Some stains permanently affect fibres or dyes, while wear and existing damage cannot be reversed through cleaning. Our technicians explain the likely results and any limitations before treatment.
The rug will normally remain damp for a period after hot water extraction. Drying depends on its construction, the cleaning required, room temperature and ventilation. We provide guidance on drying and when it should be ready for normal use.

Providing these details helps us assess whether on-site cleaning may be an option. Suitability may still need to be confirmed through inspection.

You can also send the rug’s details and photographs through our enquiry form. Please contact us before bringing a rug to our office, as we no longer offer a walk-in rug cleaning service.
