Very often when we go on jobs we hear the expression “just do the best you can”.  Other expressions include “I’m sure you won’t get all the stains out but give it a go anyway”.  I’ve even heard people say “give it a quick run over, nothing too detailed. I just want it freshened up”.

To the professional Carpet, Rug and Upholstery cleaner these are dangerous words.

Setting The Standard

The standard for performing any job should be set by the cleaning technician NOT the customer!! With excellent training and experience our ability to outperform our last job should be evident. It never bothers me when someone says “you did a better job this time than the last”.  That should be the case if we are learning and improving all the time.

Continuous training and exposure to new challenges will make for a better technician. The chemical suppliers are constantly upgrading their products.  It behooves the carpet cleaning companies to stay abreast of all new products, methods and equipment.

Striving For Improvement

Top professionals in all fields constantly strive to improve their performance. This is right and proper in the pursuit of excellence.

You’d be unlikely to tell your surgeon, pilot or indeed electrician to “do the best you can”. You are entitled to and should expect high standards from your carpet cleaner also.
